In 2005, long time seasonal resident, Michael Ellis participated in a thinking session organized by regional philanthropists and ACT.  The intent was to spark increased giving from second home and seasonal residents to help facilitate community improvement through philanthropy .  The Community Fund for the Gore Mountain Region (CFGMR) was then established to ensure that the local communities of Johnsburg, Chestertown, Minerva, and Horicon have permanent charitable resources, raised and allocated by local people, to address local needs.

Today, close to $260,000 has been raised for CFGMR to support community beautification, education, culture and the arts, youth & senior programs and historic preservation.  Seventy grants totaling over $35,000 have been distributed to nonprofits doing good work to improve the lives of Gore Mountain area residents.

The fund committee has a goal of raising $150,000 over the next three years in order to grow the grant dollars available and meet more community needs.

The CFGMR has always been overseen by community volunteers.   The advisory committee changes over time and the volunteers ensure that every dollar is spent well and wisely.  We thank the volunteers who help the fund grow.
