Special and Urgent Needs Fund (SUN)

Keene Fire Dept. damaged by IreneIn an effort to be a responsive grantmaker,Adirondack Community Trust, (ACT) along with some private family foundations and donor advisors helped to establish a Special and Urgent Needs Fund (aka SUN fund). The original intention of the Fund was to address short-term needs where a relatively small amount of funding can help a human service organization purchase a new piece of infrastructure or provide a bridge between unanticipated short-term gaps in funding. Currently ACT is accepting applications from any nonprofit organizations serving victims from Tropical Storm Irene. Applications from nonprofits that suffered damages to their facilities are also welcome.

We look for proposals that will allow an organization to:

  • Take advantage of an unforeseen and time-sensitive opportunity that will enhance the organization's ability to meet its mission with excellence and efficiency
  • Provide essential equipment, technology, or resources whose need could not have been anticipated or budgeted, and without which the work of the organization would be severely hampered
  • Conduct emergency repairs of building mechanical systems (heating/cooling, water service, etc.) whose sudden and unexpected failure interferes with the provision of services

There is no deadline, organizations may apply anytime. Decisions will be made within two-three weeks of receiving the application.
