Alexis Smith, a 2010 graduate of Saranac Lake High School, was nominated for the McCullough Scholarship by her Varsity Track Coach, Mr.Peter Frenette. Mr. Frenette writes, "Alexis came to practice every day giving 110%. She was a good leader on and off the field. Alexis and the track team were mutual beneficiaries of each other, as good as Alexis was for the team I think the team was as good for Alexis. I would not be surprised to see Alexis back here coaching someday."

Alexis is attending The College of St. Rose this fall. As well as her athletic abilities, Alexis also excelled academically, was a member of the SLCS Honor Society and graduated 16th in her class.

The McCullough family established the scholarship with ACT in honor of their son, Sean McCullough, who died tragically May 14, 2005. Sean was a gifted student, talented leader and dedicated athlete. He was a great competitor both on the field and in the classroom.

A former Plattsburgh High School Track coach, Mark Donnelly remarked that "This scholarship is an opportunity for the area track coaches to recognize young people who contribute significantly to their team. These contributions often go unnoticed by the press, but are significant in the building of the team. Dedication, thoughtfulness, support, and caring were some of Sean's strongest qualities and are the foundation for team building and this scholarship."
